Short films… well, tend to be short. But they make up for their shortness by being more what one might call: punchy. Featured below is a short film by Saad Altaf and Usman Ahmed (concept by Saad Altaf) which presents, to the viewer, the effect of telecommunication advances in the country. Sure, what you’re about to watch in the film isn’t something you get to see daily, but the premise here is metaphorical. And quite moving!

Here’s a little ad me and my friends over at LSE made about Urban Sole. You know… those guys that make really nice shoes? Those guys, EXACTLY. Mind the spelling mistake at the end. This video is a funny ad which basically shows how durable an urban sole shoe is.

We came up with this idea a day before our presentation but it was real fun how we shot the video and then edited within strict time constraints. This is no Clint Eastwood flick, so take it for what it is and not for what it isn’t.

The days of censored TV channels (PTV, anyone?) are long gone. Musharraf made an excellent decision by allowing private TV channels to operate in Pakistan. This has net us amazing, eye-opening videos that would have been outright banned had they existed before Musharraf’s era.

Having many of my Muslim relatives in America, I’ve heard stories of them being discriminated against on basis of their religion. Stories of being verbally abused for wearing the hijaab, or for supporting a beard or for just for being a Muslim in itself.

Though sort of unrelated, when me and my family visited England, we were treated with racist slurs as well. “Bloody Pakis”, yeah I remember that.

Till today, I had only heard, but now with this experiment by ABC (very old experiment though, I just found it today), it’s all very clear. Seeing discrimination in action is just very disappointing. :/

Far and Few

Two people (who wish not to be named) tell us that this is no longer the case. They say that attacks on Muslims on basis of discrimination today are far and few. That feels great to hear.

But yes, here’s how it worked out for Muslims in America some time ago. Don’t take this as being the current situation in America though. Things have changed dramatically since 9/11.

While this is no exposé, the video still left some jaws dropped on the floor. Mainly at the fact at how well our previous dictator President was singing!
